Chapter 8 Resource Considerations Objectives Taking resource constraints into account when developing a network diagram Determining the planned resource utilization for a project Leveling the use of resources within the required time frame of the project Determining the shortest project schedule with the limited resources available Resource-Constrained Planning One way to consider resources is to include them when drawing the logical relationships among the activities in the network diagram Network diagrams illustrate technical and resource constraints 3 independents activities can be done concurrently, but if there is only one person to complete all 3 tasks then there is a resource constraint that affects the planning/scheduling At minimum network diagrams illustrate the technical constraints among activities. However when limited resources are available, the network diagram can also be drawn to reflect resource constraints Planned Resource Utilization Important to include types and amounts of resources needed to perform each activity in
