Chapter 6 Scheduling Schedule = a timetable for a plan and, therefore, cannot be established until the plan has been developed Overview Estimating the duration for each activity Establishing the estimated start time and required completion time for the overall project Calculating the earliest times at which each activity can start and finish, based on the project’s estimated start time Calculating the latest times by which each activity must start and finish in order to complete the project by its required completion time Determining the amount of positive or negative slack between the time each activity can start or finish and the time it must start or finish Identifying the critical path of activities Activity Duration Estimates Duration Estimate = estimation of how long each activity will take, from the time it is started until the time is finished o First step of scheduling o Must be the total elapsed time = the time for the work to be done plus any associated waiting time The duration estimate is shown in the lower right hand corner in AIB and below the arrow in AOA Duration estimate must be based in quantity of resources expected to be used Project Start and Finish Times
