San Francisco, CA : Woman Vision, c2002. Focus Questions (Sandstrom): 1. How would you define Women’s Music in the context of the Women’s Music Network? Although women’s music has no simple definition, it is music that holds the feminist and humanist ideals of self-affirmation and mutual support. 2. What were the key political influences in the creation of this network? The emergence of women’s music coincided with dynamic periods of the women’s rights movement. Feminist political activity and the separatist movement both had strong influence in the creation of this network. 3. Why is the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival the “heart” of the Women’s Music Network? The Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival is considered the heat of the Women’s Music Network because it provided an experience of women’s music and culture in an environment open to women only in a safe space for women and children.
