Unformatted text preview: Simple Mechanisms and System Modelling Engineering Overview • Simple Mechanisms • Introduce System Modelling via MapleSim • Introduce Project Mechanics • Mechanics deals with motion, time, and forces. Mechanics can be categorized into two Felds: • Statics - systems that do not change with time, and • Dynamics - systems that do change with time. Dynamics of rigid bodies can be further separated into two parts: • Kinematics (for mechanical systems)- study of geometry and motion, and • Kinetics - study of position, displacement, rotation, speed, velocity, and acceleration. Two good references for the material on mechanisms and machines are: 1) “The Theory of Machines and Mechanisms”, buy Uicker Jr. and 2)the The Kinematic Models for Design Digital Library (KMODDL) website http://kmoddl.library.cornell.edu/index.php Machines and Mechanisms • Reuleaux was a machine designer (kinematician) from the mid to late 1800s that documented many mechanism and designed numerous machines....
