Unformatted text preview: Introduction to Project Product & MapleSim Engineering Design & Graphics Engineering 1C03 Dr. T. E. Doyle Overview • Review project specification (note extended deadline for part-1) • Discuss the product, disassemble, review mechanism • Introduce System Modelling via MapleSim Project Specification • • • Review specification document Discuss groups (must be 3 in same lab!) Discuss submission requirements: • • • Title page (will be posted) • Gantt chart (Time vs Task) Technical report on mechanical operation Using primitive shapes (cylinders, disks, etc.), propose a mechanism of how a typical floppy drive works. Must be hand drawn (and scanned) or created by group using Inventor. Directed Dissection • I will open the floppy in lecture and we will examine the contents, with particular attention to the project related parts. • If you speak with upper year students, many will tell you that you need to buy a floppy drive (+ tools) and dissect it yourself. It is not necessary to do this. The Floppy Drive Worm Gear Motor Linear Motion Mechanism Power and Data Interface Data Read Head The Floppy Drive Mechanism For your project, the mechanism is not available and you must redesign the gear train. Your motor will be in a completely different location and your design is space limited. Introducing MapleSim • While MapleSim is far more than a virtual Meccano set, once you start using the visualisation components it starts to feel very much like such a set. • Example • • • • Rigid bodies Joints Motion Review the Catapult Example ...
