Simplifed Ideal Gear Design • As suggested in your project part-1, your simplifed ideal gear design can be composed oF primitive shapes (e.g. cylinders, disks, etc.) • Recall the lecture discussion example regarding two cylinders in contact... Simplifed Ideal Gear Design 2 • Consider the ideal case of two parallel cylinders that are in contact through a point of tangency • One cylinder ` s radius is twice that of the other (R2 is twice R1). • In the ideal case where the system is lossless and friction between the cylinders is such that no slippage occurs, what would you expect the rotation speed of the small cylinder to be of the large cylinder is rotating at 1 revolution per minute?
