Nancy Crawley GPS Extra Credit The Crusades This documentary is about the war between the Christians and the Muslims. This war was called the Crusades. The Crusades was called the Holy War and was fought for two hundred years. Each side had great deeds and warriors. They would lay down their own lives for their God. The documentary starts off talking about the 60,000 Christian warriors that set off to begin the war with the Muslims in Jerusalem. Jerusalem was very important to Christians because it was where Jesus died and came back to life. During the first Crusades the killings were very horrible. The major Muslim counter attack was one of the major fears of Muslims. After the Crusades captured Jerusalem they all returned home. The documentary then talks about how people from all over Europe then began to come and see Jerusalem since it was now taken over by Christianity. The top attraction was and still is the Church of Holy Sepucal. It was rebuilt by the Crusaders. The people who came to visit were called pilgrims. They came from all over to see where Jesus was from. At shops many people liked to buy holy water that was done in the Church of Holy Sepucal. As the pilgrims would leave the town of Jerusalem they were sometimes faced by bandit bands that would wait to attack them. They were told that if you’re riding with a pilgrim and he is killed do not stop to bury him, because the grave you dig will be yours. To begin to protect the pilgrims, they brought in the Knights of Templar. The document then goes on to talk about a man by the name of Zengy.
