UM ID: 27303745 1. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a disorder that “involves enduring psychological disturbance attributed to the experience of a major traumatic event”(Weiten, 2007, p.559). One common symptom is the re-experiencing of the traumatic event in the form of nightmares and flashbacks. Garrett, a boy from the movie, explains that he has bad dreams very frequently, even every day (Through A Child’s Eyes, 2002). This is a clear symptom of post traumatic stress disorder, as he appears to be unwillingly and consistently reliving the traumatic events. Moreover, one can clearly see his discomfort and sadness as he explains his consistent nightmares, which also encompass the stress and discomfort expected in post traumatic stress disorder. Another common symptom is the feeling of alienation. Katie clearly demonstrates this feeling of alienation as a result of post traumatic stress disorder as she explains her behavior after losing her father in the 9/11 tragedy. She says that she would not play with anyone, but would simply sit on the step (Through A Child’s Eyes, 2002). This type of isolationist behavior is frequent in those experiencing post traumatic stress syndrome. Her desire to simply sit alone and think about the events demonstrates her sentiments of alienation and wanting to be alone as a direct result of the tragedy. Another typical symptom of PTSD is an increased sense of vulnerability. In the movie, the little Asian girl explains her concerns of not feeling safe. She repeats the words solemnly, “I don't feel safe”(Through A Child’s Eyes, 2002). This epitomizes the increased sense of vulnerability. The trauma she experienced left an obvious impact of
