10/1/09 - Returning to the actor discussion. -Things to consider when you cast actors - Physical type -Vocal type - Do they match the role? - Look the part? (physical type) - But skill will override looking the part. - Intangible aspects - Can I work with this person very closely for 8-10 weeks? -Teamwork? Leadership? -Attitude before audition on line. -As director, - Make sure to talk to the actors, let people know what you are thinking. - Nurture what is right as well as let people know they are wrong. - Simon of Cyrene (The character who was pulled out to help Jesus carry the cross.) -A play revolves around this character. -Thomas the Doubter goes in search of Simon. -Training - Memorization is the easiest thing -What has to be trained? - 3 parts to the actor’s instruments -Voice - Not the singing voice. - Must be able to express voice throughout the entire theater without a sense of contrivance (making an effort to be heard like yelling). James Earl Jones.
