December 3, 2009 - Discussion of writing plays o Solitary process Phase 1, Step 1 (5 steps in each phase) · Moment of inspiration (metaphor) o Example of a playwright who started his inspiration by buying wine to bring to a friend’s dinner in Hoboken. Look in the raped cashier’s eyes (pure rage). o He thought, who was this person before that look? What would she be capable of doing if she had control over her attacker now. o He could not let go here, and developed the play called “Extremities”. o First scene Main character starts showering. Some guy comes into the house. He tries to attack her, and she sprays him in the face with chemical. o Second scene He is tied up in a makeshift cage in the fireplace. At this point, she knows she is going to kill him. This is what the playwright saw that wine night.
