Many people hear the term feminist and scrunch their noses into a ball. Feminist has been given a negative connotation by the media and antifeminist movement. Feminists have commonly been portrayed as man-hating lesbians, but that is certainly not the case. Feminists support equal opportunity, abortion rights, favor worht and gay rights, and oppose violence against women, governmental cuts in welfare, and sexual harrassment. (Aronson, p. 579) Personally, I am only nineteen years old, and I have not dealt with discrimination due to my sex. Therefore, I think I would fall into the category of a “fence-sitter.” Of course I believe everyone should be treated equally, despite sex, but I don’t feel strongly enough about the issue to consider it on a day-to- day basis. In Aronson’s article, I feel I closely relate to Ann. She said she supports feminism, but would still be reserved about certain things. (Aronson, p. 579)
