What Is Abnormal? Biology and Psychopathology Biological model –behavior caused by biological changes in the chemical,  structural, or genetic systems of the body Psychological Models Anxiety Disorders Anxiety disorders - main symptom excessive  Free-floating anxiety - unrelated to any realistic, known source Phobia - irrational, persistent fear of object, situation, or social activity social phobia - fear of negative evaluation in social situations Anxiety Disorders Specific phobia - fear of objects, situations or events Claustrophobia - fear of enclosed spaces Acrophobia - fear of heights Agoraphobia - fear of place/situation from which escape is difficult or  impossible Anxiety Disorders Panic disorder – frequent, disruptive panic attacks Panic attack – sudden, intense panic; multiple physical and emotional  symptoms Anxiety Disorders Panic disorder with agoraphobia - fear of panic attack in unfamiliar, public
