Dr. Statslove Or: how I learned to stop worrying and love QM Welcome to QM 670! This is a brief introduction and syllabus addendum. First off, I am J. Douglas (Doug) Barrett. Since we will be spending the next four months or so working together, I will tell you a little bit about me. Professionally, I am a statistician with a focus on engineering statistics. (And in spite of the title, I don’t necessarily always love statistics! I do appreciate it as a very useful tool, though.) My research has touched areas as diverse as engineering control, financial derivatives, control charting, business ethics, international business and economics, auditing, psychometric testing, political philosophy and economics, and other applications. On the personal side, I travel fairly often internationally and domestically, write a little, read a little, walk and swim a lot, and play some sports from time to time. I also obviously am a fan of Stanley Kubrick and other celluloid heroes. As you peruse the syllabus, please note a couple of things.
