QM 670 Exam II 1. ANF produces nonwoven fabric. An important measurement is the tensile strength, which is the strength of the fabric to avoid being torn apart. One customer has specified that the mean tensile strength must fall between 240 g/si (grams per square inch) and 300 g/si. Based on past data, the 3σ control limits for the mean tensile strength are 249 and 285 g/si. Discuss the ability of the process to meet the customer’s specifications. Also, if the customer seeks Six Sigma compliance, what are your recommendations? 2. Another important fabric measurement is the basis weight, which is the weight of a small section. ANF has a second customer who requires that the mean basis weight must lie between 19.2 g (grams) and 20.4 g. Random samples of forty pieces of fabric were taken, and the sample means are given. From previous data, the standard deviation is known to be approximately 0.3 g. Determine the 3σ control limits and discuss whether the process is in a state of control. (Note that the observations are ordered by time period, i.e., the basis weight for the first sample is 18.7, 19.3 for the
