Information system is a set of interrelated elements or components that collect manipulate, store, and disseminate data and information and provide a corrective reaction to meet the objective. (Ralph M. Stair, George Reynolds, George W. Reynolds). Information technology is one of the important topics now days. Every company is using some or the other information systems for their company have to gain competitive advantage. Companies are thinking to gain competitive advantage with other companies and they want to be number one in their field of industry. These information systems can be of software or hardware. It can be in any of the forms depending upon the companies and their needs. Information systems are nothing but using technology for their fast productivity. Information systems are the combination of activity system and data systems of any company. These systems are used for almost all the organizations and they feel good for using these systems. The work pressure came down for employees as well as top management. Every employee profile, their salaries, their accounts, every department production, financial issues and records, data and everything can be stored in the systems. As IT came and made work easy and simple. It will depend on the company that which type of system that they will choose for their company and their needs. Why IT is important for companies: Information systems will reduce the work of top management and make the work easy and simple. There will be good impact on the employees as they need not to work hard to get results especially in the marketing and accounting departments. It will provide quality for life of the company and the growth will become easy for the management with information systems. Information systems are mainly divided into four parts. They are: Decision support system Management information system Executive information system

Transaction processing system These four parts are having their own way of using information systems. Advantages and dis-advantages of information systems: Advantages of information systems: Information systems will keep company to grow and the work will become and flexible. All the records will be stored safely in the system. And the top management will be happy with seeing all the records in one place. Employees will also feel good, as the work pressure for them will come down. These systems will be useful for all the companies in this competitive world. To achieve competitive advantage, company must use information systems and it can be either software or it can be hardware, depending upon the company and their usage.
