Most of Mannings customers were located along the West Coast. Carl Christianson, credit manager of Manning Imports, Inc., was reviewing the financial statements of major accounts in March 1992. In particular, Mr. Christianson was concerned with the performance of two long time customersAls Add-ons in San Diego and Autoland, Inc. in San Francisco. The recent economic downturn had hit the automobile accessory industry hard. Recent changes in Als Add-ons and Autolands financial statements called into question their financial soundness. Customer Background Autoland, Inc. retailed a broad line of automobile accessories throughout the greater San Francisco Bay area.
