Understand selective permeability and fluid mosaic model with respect to membrane function. 2. Know how biological membranes are organized with regard to the lipids and proteins they contain. 3. Understand what influences membrane fluidity and why maintaining the proper fluidity is important. 4. Understand how large molecules can cross membranes via vesicles – phagocytosis, endocytosis and etc. 5. Understand the concept of membrane transport proteins and be able to explain why they are necessary. 6. Know what simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion, and passive transport mean. 7. Know what osmosis and hypertonic, hypotonic and isotonic solutions are. 8. Be able to define active transport and membrane ion pumps. 9. Understand the concept of cotransport of solutes.
