CE 167 Engineering and Project Management (Fall 11) MS Project Tutorial 1 CE 167 E NGINEERING P ROJECT M ANAGEMENT (S PRING 10) M ICROSOFT P ROJECT T UTORIAL Developed by: Zofia Rybkowski Use the following data to develop a schedule and resource load it during this class: Activity Duration Predecessors Resource needed: Bricklayer (hours per 8 hour day) A (Start) 0 - - B 3 A 8 C 3 A 16 D 2 B 24 E 3 B 8 F 4 C 16 G (Finish) 0 D, E, F - 1.C REATE A NEW PROJECT : 1.1 To create a new project go to File > New (a blank document opens) 1.2 Go to File > Save as (give the file a name and save it) 1.3 Enter project information: Project > Project Information > “Start date” field, click on the pull down menu and enter the start date of this project 11/14/08. 1.4 Enter other key project information: File > Summary > Properties (Tab) 1.5 Check and set up the project calendar: Tools > Change Working Time . On the default time, Saturdays and Sundays are off and on weekdays regular working hours are 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. 2. E NTER ACTIVITIES AND THEIR DURATIONS Make sure you are working on the “Gantt Chart View” ( View > Gantt Chart ) 2.1 In the field “Task Name” enter the task name and press enter. 2.2. In the field “Duration” enter the activity duration in days. 2.3 Repeat 2.1 and 2.2 until you have entered all the activities and their durations. - Activities with a “0” duration are considered as milestones, used to indicate important events, in your schedule. Activities A and G should appear as diamond-shaped marks on your schedule.
