This week in lab Required for lab grade this week: You must attend and spend time with your TA showing her your progress on inquiry three. Most of you will be experimenting, hopefully. If you don’t have everything you need you could Check out the equipment and figure out how to use it. Make your solutions (perhaps calibrate your probe?) Lab Safety must be documented before expt can start We would prefer that your first day on experiment is done during your regular lab time, so when you are figuring out how it works you have both your TA and your mentor to help you. If the first experiment day is not your regular lab time, make sure your mentor knows what you are doing - talk together ahead of time so you have the best chance of actually getting time to do your experiment once you are in the lab. To find other times that you can access the lab, use the calendars on the RM website http://www.fasttex.diia.utexas.edu/fri-rm/ How lab access works Check the online lab availability calendar to find an available supervised time that works for your schedule. Check my online mentor availability calendar to see who may be available at that time and their contact email Email those mentor(s), telling the time(s) that you’d like and what you’d be doing. If they are available, they’ll contact the TA available at that time and make sure there is room left in the lab for you. They will let you know if they are available and there is room in the lab. Be organized, be appreciative, have your equipment/samples/plan ready and use the time well. When you arrive make sure you introduce yourself to the TA and tell them when you are leaving. If none of the supervised times work for you, you may be able to persuade Susan or I to supervise you in PAI 6.02. You must have a UGTA with you and set this up at least 24 hours ahead of time. 4 5 6

As you take more and more samples the sample mean and standard deviation approach the true mean and true standard deviation If you took inFnite measurements you’d know the true mean. We’d like to know, as we take more and more samples, how much
