Beatles Section 3 Late 1966 Early 1967 August 29 th - final Beatles concert September- john flies to Germany to film part in a movie, wears the round glasses November 9 th - meets Yoko Ono, painter, 1 st  meeting, liked to paint half of  objects Was intrigued by magnified glass that was hanging from the ceiling, above it was the word “YES” Feels she is his soul mate, never heard of the Beatles before meeting John Paul did not care for her, she was just there and didn’t acknowledge the other band members Song: “Penny Lane” Double A- sided material was Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields b/c the demand was so high  Does not reach #1 in UK charts, but it does in the US go #1 for 9 weeks About a banker and a motorcar, part fact and fiction Tone is odd and strange, characters are quirky Recorded in late ’66, Abbey Road Arco-string bass, flute, and lead vocal played by Paul  John- piano and harmony vocal, Ringo- drums George- Kongo drums Piccolo trumpets played by David Mason- featured in bridge section  Also features English horn Paul put in 2 slangs for Liverpool lads Beatles have facial hair; rumors were surrounding a break up? Trumpet ends the song, Major and Minor key shifts are bright and dark  Song: “Strawberry Fields Forever” Top 40 for 7 weeks, peaking at #8 John Lennon’s song, wrote it on set, trying for natural spoken quality, about Liverpool using real  names and places  Strawberry fields was a Salvation Army home that brought back happy memories
