MGT 310 Exam II Study Guide IPO Model of Team Performance Task, Social, Boundary Spanning Processes Team task roles Are those roles that members assume, either consciously or unconsciously, that move the team forward in accomplishing its tasks and mission. These roles are of vital importance in good team functioning. Social Encourager: Praises the ideas of others. Harmonizer: Mediates differences between group members. Compromiser: Moves group to another position that is favored by all group members. Gatekeeper/expediter: Keeps communication channels open. Standard Setter: Suggests standards or criteria for the group to achieve. Group observer: Keeps records of group activities and uses this information to offer feedback to the group. Follower: Goes along with the group and accepts the group's ideas. Boundary Spanning Boundary Spanning is concerned with the detection of information. It has two primary roles 1) to detect information and bring it into the organisation. 2) Send information into the environment presenting the company in a favourable light. There are two main sources of information 1) business intelligence which is information about the general environment. 2) Competitive Information which is information about an organizations competitors Transition, Action, Interpersonal Processes Interpersonal How team members relate to one another, shared past history or experiences, how members begin to develop relations within other group members.
