In this position, the child keeps the good and bad objects apart as separate people, even though they are actually the same person. This means that the child cannot develop the capacity for mature love - since this is based on loving a person as a whole, including their faults. Examples of paranoid-schizoid: 1. Borderline 2. Psychotic 3. Schizophrenic 1. Splitting In the earliest part of Freud's career splitting was repression of memories too difficult to face - a very important concept.
