Ch a p ter 2 : E x p r e ss i v ene s s of L ine Observe the following: Looking at the process diagrams we produced of paintings – with the arrows indicating  recovered process histories, we see a remarkable phenomenon: the diagrams exhibit  a considerable amount of  emotional expression of the paintings. So using our rules we are able to systematically, and in detail, map out the emotion in  an artwork. This goes completely against what others believed: People always said that emotion  in art is indefinable. But we will map out the emotion in enormous detail.
