MS in School Counseling MS in School Counseling trains students to understand how different psychological theories can be combined with psychology of students and implemented to help schools and school districts. The concepts taught in MS School Counseling programs are determined by the American School Counselor’s Association (ASCA). Some of these concepts include: human growth and development, theories, individual and group counseling, social and cultural foundations, testing, and professional orientation. A main task for school counselors is to educate students on conflict resolution, managing anger and anxiety, how to reduce bullying, and other social and emotional learning skills. School counseling is extremely important to schools and students’ achievement and many counselors are required to help address the issue of falling academic achievement and adjust school environments into those that encourage students to learn, study, and thrive.
