Hannah Bauss 2/7/11 Concert Paper:  Shift For my performance critique, I went to the closing night performance of Orchesis  Dance Company’s show,  Shift  on February 5 th .  The performance consisted of thirteen  pieces with one fifteen minute intermission.  Overall, I was very impressed with the  show. One of my favorite pieces in the show was Mike Esperanza’s, “Portrait.”  I loved  the song choice and how he created a theme around it which extended throughout the  entire piece.  The costumes were simple so as not to take away or distract the audience  from the dancing but the flowiness of the skirts emphasized the movements.  There  were also picture frames hanging from the ceiling, which continued the theme of the  dance because the dancers also carried picture frames with them at different points in  the piece and several movements in the number involved using the frames as props.  I  also thought it was really neat at the end of the dance when the dancers walked in a  straight line to the front of the stage holding a picture frame, turned the pictures around
