MSC 243 FORECAST LAB #8, 11/15/11 HOUSTON TX, THIS AFTERNOON ONLY Only quick answers are required. Lab needs to be turned in by 3:15. We will be using products from the Storm Prediction Center ( http://www.spc.noaa.gov ) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [Photo taken this morning by Bill Read in San Antonio TX.] A. CURRENT OBSERVATIONS 1. First, go to http://www.spc.noaa.gov , and check the “Convective Outlooks” tab. In the “Current Day 1 Outlook”, which of the 4 outlook categories is over our area of interest? Mouse over “Tornado”, “Wind” and “Hail” and write down the probability of each, and also what the specific criteria are for each (as written directly under the map) 2. From the front page, go to “Watches” and read the most recent Severe Thunderstorm Watch (was #885 although it may have been updated). Now go to “Reports” and note down up to 3 interesting recent reports (wind/hail/tornado). 3.
