Math 0305 Set-Builder Notation Supplement to Section 2.8 of Martin-Gay The solutions to linear inequalities in one variable may be given as a graph, in interval notation, or in set-builder notation. Set-builder notation appears in section 2.8 on page 142 of the Martin- Gay textbook and elsewhere in the textbook. However, in section 2.8, set-builder notation is referred to as “set notation,” and solutions to linear inequalities are given only as a graph and in interval notation. Examples of solutions to linear inequalities using both interval notation and set-builder notation are presented in the table below.
