MGF 1107 Math for Liberal Arts 2 Spring 2011, SECTION 7556 Instructor Mathew Gluck, Little Hall 435, mgluck@ufl.edu, (352) 392-0281x303 Course Web Site www.math.ufl.edu/ mgluck/MGF1107.html Description MGF 1107 is designed to serve non-science and non-business majors in ful- filling their Gordon Rule mathematics requirement. This courses demonstrates the beauty and utility of mathematics. Topics include: financial management, linear and exponential modeling, mathematics in the arts, voting theory. Prerequisite None Office Hours Monday and Wednesday 3 rd period (9:35 - 10:25), Thursday 4 th period (10:40 - 11:30) Textbook Using and Understanding Mathematics. A Quantitative Reasoning Approach , fifth edition, Bennett and Briggs You will also need a scientific calculator. Attendance Attendance will be taken at twelve unannounced times. You can miss up to two attendance days with no penalty. Homework Eight worksheets will be assigned. The six worksheets with the highest scores will be used in the computation of your grade.

The six quizzes with the highest scores will be used in the computation of your grade. Exams There will be three in-class midterm exams (dates to be announced) and a -nal exam. The nal exam is on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 in class . The nal exam must be taken at the scheduled date and time. Grading Attendance 10% Homework 20% Quizzes 20% Midterm Exams 15% each Final Exam 20% A 90% - 100% C 70% - 75% B+ 86% - 89% D 60% - 69% B 80% - 85% E 0% - 59% C+ 76% - 79% 1 Make ups There will be no make ups on any assignments.
