1 NORTH CAROLINA SCHOOL OF THE ARTS FACULTY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES October 5, 2005 Present: Trish Casey, Terra Burris, Gary Burke, Norman Coates, Dale Girard, Renata Jackson, Leslie Kamtman, Steve LaCosse, LeRoy Percy, Ellen Rosenberg, Jeryl Prescott Sales, Christine Spizzo, John Toia Interim Chancellor Bataille ( ex officio ), Provost Lavelli ( ex officio ) Absent: Wayne Crawford, Rick Miller I. Approval of Minutes The minutes of the September 21, 2005 Faculty Council meeting were approved as amended. II. Chancellor’s Report Sept. checks did not include salary raises for faculty EPA or EPA-NT. Will be in Oct. checks retroactive to July. Convocation: October 12, 2005, 12:40 pm. Karla Hughes (East Carolina University), an ACE Fellow this year, is working with the UNC Office of the President on strategic planning issues. Dr. Bataille is serving as her Mentor. Karla will be attending a Faculty Council meeting in November. Erskine Bowles, new UNC President, will visit each campus before taking office in January. The NCSA Board of Trustees (Sam Neill, Chair) has changed the structure of their meetings. o Will meet six times this year. o No Executive Committee meetings. o Work will be done in committees, reporting with recommendations at each BOT meeting. (Similar to structure of Board of Governors meetings.) o Will meet with each arts school, have the opportunity to observe their work (e.g.
