COLLIN COLLEGE COURSE SYLLABUS Course Number: PHED 1104 Course Title: Beginning Jogging and Fitness Course Description: Develops cardiovascular endurance, flexibility and strength through jogging, stretching and weight training. Physical fitness assessment leads to development of an individual fitness program. Course Credit Hours: 1 Lab Hours: 3 College Repeat Policy: A student may receive up to 4 credit hours of any combination of PHED course numbers in the 1100-1148 range; however, the same course cannot be taken more than twice. Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to do the following: 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the scientific aspects of Cardio-Respiratory Training including Physical Responses and Adaptations, Musculoskeletal Adaptations, Bioenergetics and nutrition. 2. Demonstrate the ability to monitor heart rate during exercise and rest. 3. Demonstrate the ability to calculate target heart rate zones depending on the individual’s age, fitness level and specific needs. 4. Demonstrate the ability to apply the principles of training for designing and implementing a cardio respiratory training program.
