1. Do you think that there is a national eating disorder? An ‘eating disorder’ refers to abnormal eating habits. Some eating disorders are related to food intake control, while other disorders are related to large quantities of food intake. Given that America is constantly being known as having more and more obese individuals in comparison to other nations, and that as American eating habits expand to other nations the international community has become more obese, I would be inclined to believe that there is a national eating disorder. Americans have a variety of symptoms of eating disorders. Some are gluttons and overeat regardless of the nutritional soundness of such foods that they are consuming. Others constantly attempt to control their caloric intake and then purge themselves through ridiculous diets such as the Atkins’s high fat and protein diet. While these eating habits appear to be contradictory, they illustrate just how complex the relationship between Americans and their food actually is.
