DSM Criteria- Sleep increase or decrease- Appetite/ weight changes (increase/ decrease)- Depressed mood I ndecisiveness (decrease in concentration) psychomotor agitation or retardation M ovement (increase or decrease) A nhedonia G uilt or worthlessness E nergy (decrease) fatigue S uicide (thought of death)- 5 out of 9 in the criteria- Depressed mood or anhedonia must be present have to have people say they are not enjoying things anymore, they are sadetc- Duration must be 2 weeks. ? .ii. MDE severity - Rating scale e.g Beck Depression inventory - Elderly Geriatric Depression Inventory more on the focus of thoughts. 2) Manic Episode I. Need to have some kind of elevated , expansive, euphoric (3/7) or irritable mood. (4/7) II. DSM Criteria: S leep less sleep/ loss of sleep I deas flying (flight ideas) D istractibility E xcess behavior with potential for negative consequences. (Excessive spending, substance use, gambling) T alkativeness (pressure of speech lots of talking lots of ideas, hard to interrupt) A ctivity increase or agitation vacuum in the house in the 3am, downstairs painting, ) G randiosity or increase self esteem III.
