Chapter 14- Schizophrenia and Other psychotic Disorders Psychosis: - 3/100 people will have a psychotic episode - 1/100 people will develop schizophrenia. - Others might have mood disorders, or other conditions (personality disorder) - Typical age of onset is late teens through 20s. Psychotic Symptoms: - Positive (something out of the ordinary, a person don’t normally have) λ Hallucinations (seeing things that is not there) auditory most common, hearing things λ Delusions false believes (bizarre, non bizarre) im a Robert/ my landlord is going to kill me λ Antipsychotic is effective - Negative (something lost when someone that one had before is lost after having psychosis) λ The 5 “A’s” λ Avolition- lack of motivation λ Alogia- lack of speech λ Anhedonia λ Attentionall impairment λ Flat Affect λ More negative symptoms poorer outcomes - Disorganization λ Speech and behavior λ Thought process disorder (loose association) λ Disorganize behavior (cooking becomes a challenge sequence of making something/ money management ) - Catatonia λ ‘WRENCHES’ W eird movements (ex. walk is different) R igidity ? ?   (ex. Sleeping that their head is not relax on the bed ) E chopraxia mimicking movements
