Normal and abnormal psychology are a variety of different meanings to say the least. To begin abnormal psychology is that which is outside the “normal” according to society’s rules or guidelines. These associations also include gender, age, ethnic, religion, etc. Abnormal psychology causes a disruption or troubling behavior to the person’s life and or society. If the behavior disrupts a person’s life to the point they are not able to function within society, then mental health intervention may be necessary. Some people also consider individuals who have multiple tattoos on their body to have some sort of mutilation desires which makes them abnormal. However, their desire may only belong to a select group of individuals, so what appears to be an abnormal behavior to us is normal behavior within their social circles. There are numerous perspectives within abnormal psychology which include Behavioral, Medical and Cognitive. Behavioral approach focuses maladaptive behaviors.
