Box 8528-0302 Tempe, AZ 85287 Dear Dr. Thieme: There were many assignments and activities throughout the semester that drastically improved my growth as a reader, writer, and critical thinker. Although there were many experiences that were extremely stressful, and at times seemed impossible, I feel like the majority of my struggles throughout ENG 302 were beneficial to the development of my business writing skills. In order to demonstrate how this class benefitted me more specifically I will analyze the semester based upon the different assignment sections required for the class. Employment Documents In this section, we completed four different documents that are generally needed when pursuing a job; resume, letter of application, thank-you letter, and the online portfolio. This section was probably the most beneficial to me because I could see the relevancy and the applicableness of each assignment to my future, which inspired me to work harder. Our first writing assignment was focused on applying relevant information about ourselves with respect to a target audience (a future employer). This section was fairly easy for me because I had already constructed a basic resume in the past that I used to apply for summer jobs. I thought I had a dynamic and effective resume, but after you edited it, I realized the amount of potential for improvement. This is also when I realized the degree of professionalism and advanced writing skills that would be expected of us throughout the semester. Although I already had a resume, the modifications you made to my assignment and employment documents gave me a much better understanding of how important grammatical awareness is to the perceived quality of a professional business document.
