Do we overestimate ethicalbehavior? We are often unaware of the gap between howethical we think we are and how ethical we reallyare. We usually fall short of our ethical standards: wetend to consider ourselves more honest, trustable, ethical, fair, and solidary than the average person.
Moral hypocrisy?Occurs when individuals’ evaluations of their ownmoral transgressions differ substantially from theirevaluations of the same transgressions committed byothers. We tend to have false belief that we will always beethical but when actually faced with an ethicaldilemma, they usually make an unethical choice.Because we are motivated by a desire to seeourselves as ethical people, we remember theactions and decisions that were ethical and forget, ornever process, those that were not.
