Explain why the question of the permissibility of capital punishment can be thought of as the question of whether killing someone is more like locking someone up or more like raping or torturing someone . a. Retributism i. Kidnapping 1. Because they kidnap someone, we capture them and lock them up ii. Rapist 1. But if they raped someone, do we rape them as a punsishment? iii. Torture 1. Also do we torture the criminals? iv. Therefore, killing someone because they committed a murder is wrong. Do you understand these examples from class and what they were for? 2. What is the Bathtub Case supposed to show, and how? Does it show this or not? Why or why not ? a. Rachel: to let somebody die and actively killing is morally equal i.
