English 1302: Essay 2, Analysis of an Issue in a Literary Text Choose one of the texts from Essay 1 that you did not write about or one of the following texts: “Commitments” (552-553 in MLM ) “A Chinese Banquet” (554-556 in MLM ) “Two Small-Sized Girls” (557-558 in MLM ) “My Transvestite Uncle Is Missing” (559-560 in MLM ) “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” (631-646 in MLM ) “A Rose for Emily” (667-675 in MLM ) “The Storm” (654-658 in MLM ) “The Story of an Hour” (659-660 in MLM ) “Désirée’s Baby” (661—665 in MLM ) Do a critical reading of your chosen text. Your essay should have a thought- provoking thesis , or main point, which should appear in the opening paragraph or near the beginning of the essay. Your thesis should answer a question you have about the text (an issue) . The remainder of the essay should prove your thesis . In the process, you should consider and address relevant counterarguments .
