With communism: Classes and class antagonisms will be replaced by association Marx bourgeoisie fall and rise Marx’s Weakness: Better at analyzing rise of capitalism than what was to follow Underestimated: -the strength of the bourgeoisie -the flexibility of capital -effects of ideology to block worker unity -importance of other identities such as race, nationality, etc -how flexible capitalism is extend of mobility w/ labor wage. -status gets interfered in the economic sphere people can have other identities other than workers, can belong to status groups. Bigger interest to be in status groups than being a worker. i.e.: teacher, religion, race. Ideas from Marx that remain: Groups have opposed stakes based on econ/material interest The oppressed will organize and try to overthrow the oppressors This will not happen when the time is right Class inequality looks different in different historical moments People in the bottom oppressed will resist there has to be an appropriate moment for the resistance to take place. There’s class inequality because capitalism depends on it to work.
