Where does this society stand in human history? What is the relationship of the U.S. to the rest of the world Its position in the world economy? Why does that matter? The quality of your life and your future by thinking about not just the time and neighborhood but the space you occupy in world economy and geopolitical map Like the sociological imagination People who affect you and who you’re affected by whether or not you know they exist Walmart customers gets to buy cheap goods and gets to maintain huge profits at certain costs. At the costs of the employees, and cheap labor they employ abroad , welfare for employees = cost of taxpayers Effect more than financial Think about inequality on global lines We have an econ system, capitalism, which is global, in that it functions through and maintains an overarching world system which organizes nations into unequal relations The nations have unequal relations with each other , First world, second world, third world
