The main advantage of the close link between church and state is that it gives an easy way to control citizens by claiming that any choice made by the nation was made by a deity. This allows the nation a lot of unrestrained power. A prime example would be present day Saudi Arabia or Iran. 2. What are disadvantages of a close link between church and state (that is religious organizations and government) for development? Explain with examples. a. When a nation legislates its own moral code in detail, such as women wearing veils, minimum skirt lengths, allowable music, mandatory church attendance, etc. The clergy becomes the ruling class (or the government in charge). Professing religious faith, of the accepted type, would then become mandatory. A prime example would be present day Saudi Arabia or Iran.
