Terms: Unit #1: Baroque Era Religious music : the most important music exist in Baroque era, this type of  music only serve for church and court.  Significance : Through the perspective of the importance of religious music,  demonstrate the society is domain by religious institution and it also reflects  faith play an important role in daily life.  Middle class : the class traditionally intermediate between the aristocratic  class and the laboring class.  Significance : Generally speaking, Middle class doesn’t have too much  position in the whole society until classical period which represent the inequity  exist in this era. Well-Tempered Clavier :  a collection of solo keyboard music composed by  Bach.  Significance : Well-Tempered Clavier is the most famous music piece  composed by Bach, the idea of this music is full of divinity and religion. Also  after well-tempered clavier public, Bach become famous than before.  Castrati:  a male singer castrated before puberty so as to retain a soprano or

alto voice.  Significance : The exist of castrati represent there is an unequal between  male and female, in this era, female does not have any right and position,  they even don’t have a chance to show up on the stage, people rather take a  castrati. This is not just show the unfair between people, but also the inhuman  society. Divinity : the quality of being divine; divine nature. D Significance : Divinity is the one and only godliness in this era, with the huge  numbers people who study divinity represent the religion is a big part of  human’s live. Unit #2: Classical Era Enlightenment:  a philosophical movement of the 18th century, characterized  by belief in the power of human reason and by innovations in political,  religious, and educational doctrine.  Significance : Enlightenment is second  ideological emancipation movement after Renaissance and happen in 18  century, this is an anti- obscurant, anti-feudal, anti-church and a Cultural  Revolution.   The successful of this revolution led the people into a new era,
