C:  Wait a minute!  Why do we keep teaching the kids the 26 English letters over and over  again?  Why don’t we learn some other languages?   F:  Because we are in Canada and English is the first language for most people here.   C:  Can you tell us why there are so many people speak and learn English, nowadays? F:  Because English is the  first language  for most people in  Australia Canada Ireland New  Zealand , the  United Kingdom , and the  USA . It is used widely as a  second language  and as an  official language  throughout the world. Over 370 million people speak English as their first  language. Estimates on
