Course Objectives: Business 121 is designed to provide the introductory business student with six things: 1. An integrative framework and structure whereby the student can see how all the pieces of the ‘business puzzle’ fit together in today’s fast paced and ever-changing business environment. 2. An introductory overview to the different functional areas of a business, and how decisions in those areas are both interrelated and lead the firm to achieving the critical success factors. 3. A basic business vocabulary. 4. In combination with Business 111, a preview of the material that will be examined in considerable detail in the four-year Honours Business Administration Program at Wilfrid Laurier University. 4. Through active participation in the Lab component of the course, the opportunity to both understand and develop many of the interpersonal and managerial skills required of successful managers, as well as the opportunity to develop decision-making, and oral and written communication skills in a business context. Also through the assignment of group projects, the opportunity to both experience first-hand the concepts discussed in class, as well as develop essential group/team management skills. 5.
