UPDATE:General Motors To Invest $200M On India Engine Plant 424 words 28 August 2008 05:52 Dow Jones International News DJI English (Adds details of engine plant, comments from executive, background) NEW DELHI (Dow Jones)-- General Motors Corp. (GM) will invest more $200 million in India to build its first plant for car engines as the U.S. automaker expands its manufacturing facilities to tap rising demand in the South Asian country. The factory will be built at Talegaon, near Pune city, in the western state of Maharashtra, General Motors India Pvt. Ltd. said in a statement Thursday. The automaker currently imports engines from South Korea and Australia for its Indian operations, and will be able to use the new factory to supply to its factories in the local market and overseas. The plant will have an annual capacity of 160,000 engines that can be eventually expanded to 300,000 engines a year, it said.
