Demographic Things to consider: age, sexual orientation, culture, ethnicity and race, group membership, socio economic status. Ethnocentrism-When one assumes his or her own culture is superior to those of other cultures. Avoid at all costs! Sex vs. Gender-Gender is the culturally constructed and psychologically based perception of one’s self. Culture-A learned system of attitudes, beliefs and values shared by a group of people.

Demographic cont. Race vs. Ethnicity-Ethnicity is a part of a cultural background relating to national or religious heritage. Cultural Differences Individualistic (USA, Canada, UK) vs. Collectivistic (Japan, Thailand). High Context (Arab and Asian)vs. Low Context (USA). Tolerance for uncertainty (UK) vs. Need for certainty(Russia, Japan). High Power (Mexico, India). Low Power (Israel, Norwegian Countries).
