NAN – Neighborhood area network with a range of a few blocks, such as a WI-FI hotspot offered by a coffee shop or neighborhood Free WI-FI organization. LAN- (Local Area Network) An interconnected group of computers and peripherals located within a relatively limited area, such as a building or campus. MAN – (Metropolitan Area Network) A public high-speed network that can transmit voice and data within a range of 50 miles. Ethernet- A type of network in which nodes are connected by coaxial cable or twisted- pair wire. Node – In a network, a connection point; in a hierarchical database, a segment or record type. NIC- is network adapter hardware in the form factor of an add-in card such as a PCI card. Provides the hardware interface between a computer and a network
