The Epic of Gilgamesh this is an amalgamation of many oral tales of the ancient Sumerians/Assyrians it comes from an oral legend captured on 12 clay tablets in Akkadian, the main Semitic language of  ancient Babylonia and Assyria Uruk is referred to in the Old Testament as Erech (Genesis 10:10); it is now Warka in modern Iraq the real king Gilgamesh lived 2700-2500 B.C.E. and built Ur the clay tablets were preserved by king Ashurbanipal (668-627 B.C.E.) who assembled the greatest library
