Unformatted text preview: Stat 322/332 Sampling and Experimental Design Assignment 3 with short solutions 1. In a powder-painting process, parts are held in racks during spraying. There are four racks and four positions in each rack. An experiment was carried out with 16 parts randomly assigned to the 16 rack-position combinations. The objective was to investigate the effect of rack and position on (mean) paint thickness. The measurements of thickness are as follows. Position Rack 1 2 3 4 Total 1 1.06 1.10 1.08 1.08 4.32 2 1.13 1.10 1.14 1.15 4.52 3 1.16 1.17 1.14 1.18 4.65 4 1.17 1.23 1.20 1.20 4.80 Total 4.52 4.60 4.56 4.61 18.29 1. Plot the data in a useful way. 2. Write down a model, any assumptions and constraints. Refer to your plot of the data and comment on the appropriateness of the assumptions. 3. Compute an appropriate analysis of variance table. Answer: MS(Racks)=0.01036; MS(Positions)=0.00042; MS(Residual)=0.00040....
