ORGANIC CHEMISTRY 308 H3/H4 SUMMER 2011 Lecturer: Prof. John W. Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm, SEC 118. Reviews are also at these times. Lectures: MTuWThF, SEC 118, 1:40 pm – 3:00 pm. Recitations: MWF, Sections H3: 12:30 – 1:25 pm; Sections H4: 3:15 – 4:10 pm General: Text Book : L. G. Wade, Jr., "Organic Chemistry ", 7th edition (required), Study Guide (optional, but recommended) and molecular models (optional). Note: The package sold under ISBN 055874799X by the Rutgers bookstores (Barnes & Noble and New Jersey Books) is recommended. It has an excellent price that is difficult to beat. Exams: General : All exams and quizzes are closed book , and students are not allowed to share information in any way. The use of calculators and cell phones is not allowed at any time during exams and quizzes. Molecular models may be used but not shared. Photo IDs are required for all exams and will be checked individually in every exam. Midterm exams : Midterm exams will be given on Thursday , July 21, and Thursday, August 04 , during the normally scheduled class time, starting at 1:40 pm . These exams will be 70 min. in duration, and will consist of 8 multiple-choice questions and 12 questions requiring short written answers, possibly including chemical structure drawings, reaction mechanisms and other diagrams, short written explanations, nomenclature or short calculations.
